Custom-made hexagon wall panels for the Swiss Museum of Transport
For its new "Sustainability" themed area, the Swiss Museum of Transport had a clear design idea: custom-made hexagon wall panels made of oak and moss were to visually underscore the exhibition's message.
The result is high-quality, handcrafted unique pieces made by us that fit perfectly into the modern and interactive concept. The combination of warm oak wood and the lively surface of cushion-like forest ball moss and vibrant reindeer moss creates a fascinating, natural eye-catcher. But the panels are more than just visual highlights. As a maintenance-free and durable piece of nature, they are themselves a tangible and fitting example of the exhibition's theme.
Production and details
A special production
The request from the Museum of Transport for the new sustainability themed area was very specific. They wanted our hexagon wall panels made of oak and moss, but in a custom size tailored to the exhibition. We then produced these panels as a special order, exactly to the client's specifications.
The materials: oak and moss
Each panel has a base of solid oak wood. On this wood, we applied a mixture of two types of moss: the cushion-like forest ball moss provides an interesting structure and depth. The apple-green reindeer moss adds a fresh color contrast.
The effect in the exhibition
The hexagon panels fit perfectly into the modern, interactive concept of the sustainability themed area. As a deliberately natural element, they make the theme tangible for visitors and make a clear visual statement. Since the mosses are preserved and thus maintenance-free and long-lasting, the panels themselves are an example of a sustainable design solution that perfectly matches the forward-looking message of the exhibition.
