Jungle vibes at the Knies Kinderzoo restaurant
A visit to the zoo is a unique experience that should find a harmonious continuation in the restaurant. Knies Kinderzoo in Rapperswil approached us with the wish to visually upgrade their zoo restaurant and emphasize the jungle theme in the interior. The goal was to create an inviting, fresh atmosphere that perfectly matches the identity of this historic location while withstanding the demands of a catering environment.
Our custom-made solution is a large-scale moss wall that has completely transformed the space. Upon entering the conservatory, guests immerse themselves in a vibrant, green backdrop that instantly brings the freshness of real nature into the room. The rich greenery ensures a soft indoor climate and an all-around pleasant well-being while dining. Additionally, the preserved moss offers practical benefits for the restaurant operations: it dampens room acoustics during high visitor traffic and is completely resistant to kitchen emissions. The historic circus posters of the Knie family, which previously hung on the wall, were seamlessly integrated into the greenery. History and nature thus merge into a unique eye-catcher. Through this modern look, the restaurant gains a completely new dynamic that remains entirely maintenance-free and visually aligns perfectly with the zoo's slogan: Experience animals, preserve biodiversity.
Custom moss wall combines tradition and natural aesthetics
From the joint on-site inspection to a perfect visual landing
The creative process began with an inquiry from the zoo for an initial meeting directly on-site in Rapperswil. During the joint inspection of the restaurant conservatory, we were able to analyse the spatial effect and discuss the design possibilities. Following the consultation, we created detailed visualisations. This made it visible even before installation how perfectly the dense greenery fits into the restaurant.
Moss meets historic circus posters
For an authentic jungle feel, we chose a diverse composition of forest moss, pole moss, and jungle moss. This combination ensures a vivid, three-dimensional structure. The absolute highlight is the integration of the historic posters of the Knie family. Instead of replacing the existing decoration, the moss wall elegantly embeds the story-filled posters. The result is a harmonious interplay where circus tradition meets the freshness of modern greening.
Modern look and added value for the Kinderzoo catering
The finished moss wall creates a genuine wow effect in the zoo restaurant. As soon as visitors enter the conservatory, they pull out their phones to take pictures of this backdrop. In addition to the visual enhancement, the natural material brings tangible advantages for the restaurant operations. The wall is completely maintenance-free, requires no light or water, and is highly resistant to kitchen emissions. Furthermore, the installation fits seamlessly into the zoo's philosophy and visually reflects the well-known slogan "Experience animals, preserve biodiversity".
