Natural acoustic moss solution for University of St. Gallen (HSG)
For the renowned University of St. Gallen (HSG), we implemented an exciting project focused on functional interior greenery. In an environment driven by innovation and excellence, a smart solution was also required for the spatial design. The goal was to optimise the acoustics of the highly frequented cafeteria, where hundreds of students gather daily, often resulting in high noise levels.
Our solution combines functionality with modern biophilic design. We custom-made seven large-scale bun moss panels that effectively absorb sound and noticeably calm the space. At the same time, these vibrant green, maintenance-free natural artworks bring a touch of nature into everyday campus life. The result is an acoustically comfortable and visually appealing environment that invites students to relax and recharge.

Acoustics and aesthetics in perfect harmony
For the University of St. Gallen cafeteria, we developed a concept that integrates seamlessly into the existing architecture while adding functional value. The aim was to enhance large spaces with design elements that also improve acoustics. Bun moss provides exactly this balance. Its soft, rounded structure creates a striking organic look while acting as an effective sound absorber, improving the acoustic quality in a natural and elegant way.
Custom moss panels as large-scale wall greenery
In our workshop, we handcrafted seven large moss panels. As a base, we used 10 mm MDF boards, onto which the bun moss in meadow green was carefully applied. To optimise the visual impact, the panels were produced in three different dimensions. This variation creates a dynamic yet balanced wall design.
Sustainable greenery for everyday campus life
The custom greenery brings freshness, colour and a piece of nature into the campus environment. It integrates perfectly into the architecture and immediately enhances the space. The cafeteria feels more vibrant and becomes a highly attractive place for students to spend their breaks. A perfect combination of modern interior design and the power of nature.
