Large bun moss wall art for the cantonal forestry office meeting room
A meeting room is often the heart of an institution. It is where strategies are developed and important decisions are made. The cantonal forestry office of St. Gallen had a very specific request: significantly improve the acoustics in the central meeting room without compromising on inspiring aesthetics. The idea was both simple and brilliant: a moss artwork capturing the visual effect of an aerial view over a dense forest.
We had the opportunity to bring this vision to life with a bespoke large-format installation. The result is an impressive statement piece that enhances the space visually while transforming it functionally. By carefully using premium bun moss, we created a three-dimensional surface that gives the impression of looking down onto a forest canopy from above. During meetings, the view now rests on a vibrant green structure that creates a calming atmosphere while noticeably improving room acoustics. A concept that demonstrates how institutions can express their identity through modern interior greening.
Bespoke moss wall art for acoustic sound absorption in meeting rooms
Improved acoustics with a forest-inspired design
Two key goals defined this project for the cantonal forestry office of St. Gallen: significantly improving the acoustics in the meeting room while creating a design that resembles an aerial view of a forest. To bring this vision to life, we combined premium bun moss in apple green and meadow green, a composition that reflects the natural diversity of woodland landscapes.
A vibrant 3D effect
The standout feature of this installation is its three-dimensional surface, created by the naturally cushion-like form of the bun moss. By arranging the moss elements at varying heights across the 250 x 200 cm surface, we enhanced this visual depth even further. Depending on the lighting, shifting shadows create impressive movement and dynamism. The structure resembles a dense forest canopy while effectively absorbing sound.
Long-lasting beauty without maintenance
Each moss artwork is handcrafted in our manufactory as a unique one-of-a-kind piece. The bun moss is naturally preserved using carefully selected ingredients, allowing it to retain its appearance for years. A major benefit is complete maintenance freedom. As the moss no longer undergoes biological processes, it requires no water, no light, and no fertiliser. This means there are no ongoing maintenance costs.
Functional added value for everyday use
The finished moss artwork fits perfectly with the identity of the cantonal forestry office. Beyond its visual appeal, the natural material delivers practical functional benefits: it absorbs sound and helps regulate humidity, noticeably improving the atmosphere for meetings and discussions. This project demonstrates how visual design and acoustic performance can be combined to transform a functional room into an inspiring environment.
