School greening: moss art in the Eichi schoolhouse
Inviting spaces play an important role in everyday school life to create a pleasant environment for children and teachers. For the Eichi schoolhouse in Niederglatt, we had the pleasure of implementing a greening project that sets natural accents in the staffroom as well as directly in the entrance area and hallway of the school. The plain white walls were to be broken up and noticeably enlivened by a fitting design concept.
The centerpiece of the implementation consists of a custom-made moss art piece with an oak wood frame and the integrated lettering "Willkommen im Eichi", complemented by geometrically arranged hexagon wall panels. The entire installation brings a completely new, warm atmosphere as soon as you enter the building. The rich green moss has a soothing effect on the eyes and fosters a focused yet friendly learning environment. Thanks to the permanent preservation, the concept is completely maintenance-free, requires neither light nor water, and retains its deep color for years – the ideal, sustainable solution to transform the school into a place where everyone enjoys spending time.
Creative custom moss greening
From the initial idea to creative expansion in the schoolhouse
Our collaboration originally started on a smaller scale with a twelve-piece hexagon wall panel set that we crafted for the staffroom. Various types of moss instantly brought a calming, natural touch to the teachers' break room and preparation area. Due to this positive response, the school approached us again some time later with a new idea: the entrance area was to feature a large, representative moss art piece, complemented by scattered hexagon wall panels. The client already had very precise ideas regarding the design and the message, which we were able to implement exactly according to their wishes.
Precise custom work with integrated lettering and corner alignment
For the school entrance, we custom-made a 200 × 100 cm moss art piece using forest green forest moss and apple green pole moss. Framed in premium oak wood, the lettering "Willkommen im Eichi" was seamlessly integrated into the moss surface. The architectural highlight of this installation was the precise 202-degree cut, allowing the moss art piece to continue perfectly around the corner of the hallway. The installation is completed by eight separate hexagon wall panels featuring vibrant apple green reindeer moss, playfully extending the geometric design language throughout the entrance area.
Long-lasting freshness and tangible value without maintenance
The finished installation immediately catches the attention of everyone entering the school. The once plain white wall has been transformed into a vibrant feature that creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Beyond its visual impact, the natural greenery contributes to a noticeably more pleasant environment throughout the school day. Since the moss is permanently preserved, both the main moss art piece and the hexagon wall panels remain colourfast and fresh for many years. They require no water, fertiliser or ongoing maintenance, making them a durable and completely maintenance-free solution that is perfectly suited to public spaces.
