Moss Ceiling Panels for Biophilic Office Design
At the new CHRIS sports AG site in Eschlikon, we created a large-scale moss installation for the office’s social space. Positioned directly above the coffee zone, it provides a relaxed setting where employees connect and unwind. The goal was to bring nature indoors, enhance acoustics and make a bold design statement.
Our solution consists of several suspended ceiling panels featuring jungle moss – a composition of forest moss, ball moss and selected foliage. Suspended just below the ceiling, the panels form a green canopy across the room. Even the pendant lights were seamlessly integrated, passing directly through the moss for a clean and visually compelling result. The space has become a natural meeting point at the heart of the office – inspiring calm, creativity and a sense of identity, all without maintenance.
Design & impact
Planning & implementation
In close consultation with our partner and the client, we translated the idea of a floating moss ceiling into a practical solution. It wasn’t just about aesthetics – the panels were intended to enhance acoustics and visually structure the space to promote well-being in line with biophilic design. Our florist was present during installation to make the final adjustments and ensure foliage, moss and lighting worked together perfectly.
The ceiling panels consist of our jungle moss, a low-maintenance blend of forest moss and ball moss in apple green, combined with leaf types such as fern, papyrus, populus and nicoli. The panels were installed slightly below the concrete ceiling. Pendant lights were routed directly through the moss panels, seamlessly merging technology with nature.
Impact in the space
The green ceiling creates a space people enjoy spending time in. It draws the eye upward, enlivens the space and brings nature into the workplace. The improved acoustics and calming atmosphere enhance employee well-being – especially in areas designed for casual interactions, relaxed breaks and creative moments.
