Since the pandemic, more and more people have been spending an increasing portion of their working time working from home. While the impact on productivity for companies is still relatively unclear, it is known that the right setup can be beneficial for both health and productivity. If working from home has become the norm for you, too, we would like to share with you five tips on how to perfectly set up your home office.
1) Find the right place for your workplace
Of course, you are somewhat limited in your choice of workspace when working from home, but the best option is a room in your apartment where you have peace and quiet and can use it as an office.Make sure your desk is positioned so you can work in natural daylight, which will help you concentrate. However, it shouldn't be too bright, so it's best to position your desk slightly to the side of a window. If a workspace with natural light isn't possible, use a good desk lamp.
Sufficient space is also an important consideration that you shouldn't forget. There's nothing more annoying than having to work in a closet. So, keep your office organized and create space where necessary.
2) Workplace ergonomics also in the home office
Ergonomics in the workplace is extremely important, even when working from home! Your health will thank you later if you follow a few simple rules. If you regularly work from home, you should definitely not skimp on your office chair and desk. Height-adjustable desks are perfect for long hours in the office, allowing you to stand up occasionally while working, which is healthier than sitting all day. This also leads to greater concentration and energy, and prevents back pain.
Always make sure your desk and office chair are properly adjusted. Your feet should touch the floor, and your upper and lower arms should ideally be at a 90-degree angle to the desk surface. Also, don't forget the optimal room temperature of approximately 20-22 degrees Celsius and a humidity of 40-60%.
The screen should be at least an arm's length away from your eyes, and the monitor should be 22 inches, but ideally 24 inches. Depending on your profession, it's also worth considering getting two monitors. While this won't allow you to work twice as fast, it certainly won't hurt your productivity.

3) Order in the workplace
You're probably familiar with the saying "Organization is half the battle," and you should keep this in mind for your home office. Make sure your desk isn't cluttered, because, as the saying goes, less is more. Only put the important things on your desk and stow away anything unnecessary or potentially distracting. A desk organizer is perfect for your writing utensils. This way, you'll have much more space on your work surface and can move around freely. But keeping things tidy doesn't just apply to your desk; it applies to your entire office. Leaving too much clutter lying around automatically makes your office feel smaller. Make sure you have enough storage space, because a tidy office improves the working atmosphere.
4) The perfect lighting
Workplace lighting plays an important role, and it's even more so when you don't have access to natural daylight. Be sure to get a table lamp for optimal lighting at your desk. The light should be directed downwards, not directly at your face or the screen. A dimmable table lamp is ideal for making it more comfortable for your eyes.5) The color green in your workplace
It's been proven that colors have various effects on people and can significantly influence mood, for example. So why not take advantage of this knowledge and create a positive atmosphere in your home office? This doesn't mean that you should paint your walls right away, but even a few well-thought-out color accents in your office are highly recommended and can have an extremely pleasant effect on your subconscious.
